The Reed College Dance Department invites applications for a half-time, one-year visiting position in Dance Studies, beginning Fall 2014. A search to fill the position on a continuing basis will take place in 2014-15. Salary is competitive, including benefits and support for travel and research.
The successful candidate would teach three courses over two semesters, including an introductory dance history course, a junior seminar and a course in the appointee’s area of speciality. As a small, collaborative department, members of the dance faculty also contribute to the supervision of undergraduate theses and production of events with students and visiting artists. Our pedagogy emphasizes the integration of theory and practice; though focused in dance studies, the ideal candidate would seek to enhance work in the classroom with embodied activities. Above all, we seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, a lively intellectual engagement with the field and an interest in furthering the development of a vital and diverse curriculum. Ideal candidates will have Ph.D. in hand or A.B.D. by the start of the appointment, though candidates with M.F.A.s will be considered.
