Doctoral Student Position in Theatre Studies at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies.

The Department of Musicology and Performance Studies announces the vacancy of one position on the doctoral research programme in Theatre Studies to be associated with the project “Performing Premodernity: Exploring Cultural Heritage through the Drottningholm Court Theatre”.This project meets the eighteenth century on its own terms through the extraordinarily well-preserved performing space of the Drottningholm Court Theatre, which provides unique possibilities for research and experimentation. An interdisciplinary group of international academic and artistic scholars will study the musical and theatrical ideals and conditions that prevailed in Sweden and/or the rest of Europe during the era. The research will embrace both the material and the immaterial dimensions of late eighteenth-century theatrical performance. On the cusp of academic and artistic research, the results will be applied to the performance of opera, particularly from the period c1760 to c1815. The project will make a substantial and timely contribution to an understanding of premodern theatre practices and their cultural relevance today.
